Microsoft is ending Phone Text and Call as Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) options. These options will be turned off for all college accounts on January 4, 2027.

Beginning October 28, 2026, if you utilize Phone Text or Call options for your MFA and do not have Microsoft Authenticator app already set up, you will receive a notice to "improve your sign-ins" when logging into your Hudson Valley account. You must follow the prompts to set up a different MFA method before January 4, 2027. The Microsoft Authenticator phone app is the recommended method.

Additionally, any user who does not already have the Microsoft Authenticator app set up will be prompted to do so.

Users who have Microsoft Authenticator app already set up as an MFA option will not receive the "Improve your sign-ins" notice, even if they have Phone Text and Call options set up.

Instructions are available below for installing and setting up Microsoft Authenticator app:

If you are a unable to use a smart phone and the Microsoft Authenticator app, please contact the IIT Help Desk via phone (518) 629-7364 or email helpdesk@hvcc.edu for alternative MFA options.
