Viking Value Textbook Links

Viking Value

Viking VALUE (Value, Access, Learning, Utility and Equity) is Hudson Valley Community College's textbook materials program designed to make textbooks more affordable, accessible and available when students need them.

Through Viking VALUE, students receive required textbook materials on or before the first day of class for a predictable cost of $25 per registered credit hour. Most materials are delivered digitally through D2L Brightspace, while print materials are available through the Viking's Cove Bookstore when required.

Ebook Availability

For courses using an eBook that book maybe available through the VikingVALUE Textbooks link on the Brightspace Nav Bar. To see if your text publisher provides the text directly in Viking VALUE click on the VikingVALUE Textbooks link on the Brightspace Nav Bar and look for your course and text. You will then be able to click on the "Open Book" and view the text that is available to students.

Adding Publisher Connection

For publishers where the "Open Book" is not showing you will need to provide a link to students to access the book.

The most direct way to provide student access to the textbook is to follow the steps below. If you need information on a specific Publishers process please connect with the Office of Distance and Online Learning.

  • Access the D2L Brightspace Course
  • Add a "Textbook" Module to the course (or use an already created module where you have textbook information)
  • In the module click "Existing Activities"
  • Select the Publisher from the list provided
    • If you do not see your publisher listed on the drop down select "External Learning Tools" and select the publisher from there
  • Log in to Publisher tool to connect your course
    • If the login does not appear, click on the created link to initiate the login process
  • Follow the prompts to connect your adopted textbook to the course.
    • Please note that the textbook must match the textbook that is showing for students in Viking VALUE

Deep Linking Assignment

If you are using deep linking for your text you can link to activities in each module for the course.

Help Adding Links

VitalSource Textbook Integration Help - meet with staff to set up your textbook links. All textbooks are digital, and most need to have a link configured in your Brightspace course shells for students to access the e-book.
