Syncing OneDrive to Sharepoint Online

Syncing One Drive to Sharepoint Document Libraries:
Sharepoint offers the option to Sync your Onedrive to Sharepoint document document libraries. This allows you to share documents easily with whomever has access to the document library. Selecting the Sync option will create a new file share through the Onedrive application in order for you to Add, Edit, or Delete files on Sharepoint through your local computer

Prerequisites:

  1. You must have Internet access in order to process changes made to files in a sync or a shortcut
  2. Editing access to the Sharepoint Online site.
  3. Access the document library.
  4. You must also be signed into the Onedrive application on your PC/Mac

For Windows & Mac users:

  • Navigate to the Sharepoint document library you wish to Sync with and look for the “Sync” arrow just under the navigation menu. It has a picture of two arrows and a Monitor next to it. 
  • Select the  “Sync” ButtonSelect the sync button between Edit in grid view and Add shortcut to OneDrive
     
  • You may get a prompt to sign in to your OneDrive application
  • Follow the prompts. This should create a “OneDrive” option on your Explorer/Finder menu
  • Open a Explorer/Finder window and click on OneDrive

This is essentially creates a Directory for all the Sharepoint Document Libraries you have linked to; This can be done multiple times. Each time you link to a different Sharepoint Document Library, you will get a folder that follows the naming format “Sharepoint name- Folder".   

You also have the option of instead adding a shortcut to the directory in your onedrive folder where you can Add, Edit, or Delete files from.

For Windows & Mac users:

  • Navigate to the Sharepoint document library you wish to add a shortcut to.
  • Select the  “Add shortcut to Onedrive” Button
    Select Add shortcut in Onedrive between sync and Pin to Quick access
  • You should get a prompt to sign in
  • Follow the prompts. This will add a shortcut to the parent directory in your OneDrive application.
  • Open a Explorer/Finder window, navigate to your OneDrive directory and locate your new shortcut

To upload documents to the Sharepoint from your OneDrive Folder:

  • Drag and drop files into the document library folder you wish to share
  • Navigate to the Sharepoint Online Document Library in your web browser 

    Notice: Updates may take a few minutes to propagate to the internet depending on internet speeds.
