Zoom Changes Beginning August 1, 2024

In accordance with the Zoom Software Quarterly Lifecycle Policy, all faculty, staff and students are required to use the Zoom Workplace Desktop Client or Zoom Workplace Mobile App version 6.0 or greater.

On campus computers will be automatically updated beginning August 1. Most college-issued laptops and other college issued devices, such as iPads, will also be automatically updated beginning August 12. However, some laptops and other college issued devices may require users to book an appointment with the IIT Help Desk to be updated. This will be indicated by an error message requiring the user to contact the IT administrator for assistance.

HVCC IIT Security and Usability Changes for Zoom - Effective Aug. 12, 2024

Effective August 12, 2024, the waiting room option will be on and locked for all meetings to increase meeting security. The following Waiting Room options will now be the default for ALL HVCC Zoom Workplace Meetings (these settings can be seen in your account, vii the Zoom Web Portal under settings—>meetings—->waiting room).

Waiting Room - Feature on and locked: When participants join a meeting, place them in a waiting room and require the host to admit them individually. Enabling the waiting room automatically disables the setting for allowing participants to join before host.

Additional Waiting Room Options:

  • Users who are not in your account and not part of your white-listed domains will go in the waiting room and will need to be admitted manually by the meeting host.
  • Users invited during the meeting by the host or co-hosts will bypass the waiting room.
  • Allow participants in the waiting room to reply to host and co-hosts.
  • Host and co-hosts only can admit participants from the waiting room.
  • People in the waiting room are sorted alphabetically.
  • Place participants in the waiting room if the host and co-hosts are not present or if they lose Internet connection during a meeting.
