Brightspace Pulse App
Brightspace's app, called Pulse, is available on Google and Apple devices. There are some visual differences between looking at Brightspace on a computer versus in the Pulse app, but it's still easy to use, and navigate and is accessible to anyone with disabilities. You still will need access to a reliable computer and Internet connection that meets certain minimum requirements to complete coursework on the Brightspace LMS.
Brightspace Pulse is optimized for mobile devices with the following operating systems:
Instructions
Download the Brightspace Pulse app and log into your account using the instructions below.
- When you first launch the app, you'll get a few screens welcoming you and introducing the available features, as seen below. You can either click "Next" on the bottom right to see more features, or click "Get Started" to continue logging in.
- You will be asked "Who provides your learning?" You will want to type in "SUNY."
- Next, you'll receive a SUNY Sign In screen. There is an option for "Network Login." Click this link to continue logging in and verify not only who you are, but that you have a SUNY account.
- You are now able to choose Hudson Valley as your campus from the drop-down menu and select "LOG IN."
- You should now be prompted by your HVCC Single Sign-On security to sign in.
Navigating the Pulse App
Once logged into your account, you will have access to notifications and all courses inside Brightspace.
- Unlike what you see in a web browser, in the Pulse app your options for Upcoming (calendar), Courses, and Notifications will appear along the bottom of the page. When you click on Courses, you will be able to see the list of all of your currently active courses and can choose which to enter.
- Once you click on a course, you will see a simplified navigation menu with "Content" and "Grades" across the top.
- You can view the course homepage and course navbar in web browser mode. To do that click on the three-dot ellipsis in the top right corner and select "Launch Course Homepage" from the top of the screen for Android, and the bottom of the screen for iOS.
- If you choose to use this mobile web browser mode, you will see your course minibar with email, alerts and notifications at the top, the course homepage, and a side menu on the left that slides out to contain the course navbar.
- Once the side menu is expanded, you will be able to see the same options available on the course navbar that are available in a computer web browser. Your minibar (email, alerts and notifications icons) remains at the top, but your course navbar will cover it when opened. The side menu will open your course navbar that appears horizontally at the top of a Brightspace course in a computer web browser.
