Note: These instructions are accurate for the new release of Windows 10
If you are a current Hudson Valley Community College student or employee you may connect your Windows 10 computer to our wireless network by following the instructions below.
Step 1
From the Desktop, left-click Start also known as the Windows Symbol on the lower left of your screen.
From the Start Menu window that appears, left-click Settings ( the gear/cog icon ).
Step 2
From the menu that appears, left-click Network & Internet.
Select Wi-Fi from the menu on the left, then scroll to the bottom of that screen.
Select Network and Sharing Center from the options under Related Settings.
Step 3
Select Setup a new connection or network.
Step 4
Select Manually connect to a wireless network and then select Next button.
Step 5
Enter the following values:
Network Name: HVCC-COMM
Security Type: WPA2-Enterprise
Encryption Type: AES
Select the Next button.
Step 6
Select Change connection settings.
Step 7
Select the Security tab.
Select the Settings button.
Step 8
Uncheck Verifying the server’s identity by validating the certificate.
Uncheck Enable Fast Reconnect.
Select the Configure button.
Step 9
Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password.
Select the OK button twice to return to the “HVCC-COMM Wireless Network Properties” window.
Step 10
Select Advanced settings.
Step 11
Under the 802.1x settings tab.
Check Specify authentication mode.
Select User authentication from the drop down menu.
Select OK for the remaining panels.
Select the Close button for the manual wireless network windows.
Step 12
* In most cases, you must restart your computer for the new connection to properly setup and correctly display a username / password log in prompt.
Select the Wireless Network Icon from the notification panel on the windows taskbar.
From the menu, select HVCC-COMM, uncheck Connect automatically and select Connect.
Step 13
Enter your HVCC username and password in the required fields.
Select the OK button.
Your wireless icon in the notification area will now be filled in and if you left-click the icon, HVCC-COMM should now say “Connected”.
