Using the Alertus Desktop Activator (Panic Button)

Summary

Instructions on how to use the Alertus Panic Button to alert Public Safety of emergencies. This is installed on a select number of public-facing computers on campus.

Body

The Alertus Desktop Activator, or Panic Button, is a piece of software installed on a select number of PCs on campus that allows you to alert Public Safety of an emergency with the press of a button. It is configured by the Help Desk, and most users receive training on how to use the software from a Help Desk technician. You can find detailed instructions on how to use the software below, for your reference.

  1. In the bottom right-hand corner of your screen (the system tray), you should see a red Panic Button icon. If you don't see it, click the up arrow in the system tray, and click-and-drag the red Panic Button to the right of the arrow, so it is no longer hidden. See below.
  2. Right-click the red Panic Button, and click "Need Help!"
  3. ONLY IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY, click Yes in the Confirm Action window. This will notify Public Safety immediately with your Name, Building, Room Number, and Phone Number.

If the Panic Button is not working and there is an emergency, please call Public Safety immediately (dial 911 from a campus phone or (518) 629-7210) using the nearest phone.
