Saving Documents to Microsoft Word or PDF Formats
Summary
Learn how to save/export your Google Docs or Pages documents to Microsoft Word or PDF formats so your instructor can open them.
Body
A majority of faculty will have you working with word processing documents as you answer questions and complete worksheets. There are several word processing programs available. Some of the most commonly used ones are Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works, WordPerfect, Pages, Open Office, and Google Docs. Most of these programs have their own file extension (.docx, .wpd) to know what program they need to use to open files. Some programs can convert from one format to another but most can’t.
The most commonly accepted word processing file types are:
- Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) – This is the “new” universal file type that most word processing programs can open with much of its formatting left intact. Also, most word processing programs give you the option to save as Microsoft Word.
- Portable Document Format (.pdf) – This file format is used to present documents in a manner independent of application software, hardware, and operating systems. Users can use a free viewer to open the documents, otherwise, they can’t open it.
