Preventing File Attachment Errors

Summary

You may run into problems submitting or viewing files. There are several reasons why this may occur.

Body

File Name Errors:

When saving assignment files follow the tips below to prevent problems from occurring when others try to open them:

  • DO NOT use Special Characters within Filenames such as: ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) + – = { } [ ] | : ; < > ? , . /
  • Keep Filenames Short, for example, Assignment1.docx or  Essay2_lastname.docx
  • Make sure your filename only contains one (1) file extension. For example, you do not want Assignment1.docx.pdf. It should be Assignment1.docx

File Size Errors:

The maximum size permitted for uploading an individual file to Brightspace is 2GB.

File Type Errors:

When needing to submit a file for an assignment be sure to follow your professors instructions for what type of file to submit. Some file types do not display in the document viewer and it is always recommended to preview your file after submission to make sure you have submitted the correct file.
